Calm after the Storm

Wibbit, Wibbit*
There is such an irony to the beauty that comes after a storm. The sun shines on our faces, touching the grass and letting it glisten across our lawn and better witness the path of destruction, the cool air mixes with the humidity making it comfortable to go outside again. And life comes out again full stop. Birds singing, bugs gathering, and FROGS chirping.
Friday we had plans to go to the House of Bounce, but mother nature decided to intervene. We were to meet our friends Austin and Will. Instead, once we were all safe and sound and out of the crawl space, we decided to have them come to us for the morning. After all, they had no electricity or crawl space and there were rumblings that we may get hit again. So we emerged from our home, doubled in size, into the beautiful weather and began to hunt for foggies.*

Austin was the one to follow, he had clearly done this before. Sure enough, a frog was discovered under a down spout and the adventure began. Austin was naturally very possessive of his find and reluctant to share, but his Mommy stepped in and convinced all the kids to sit in a circle and let the foggie* decide who he "wanted to play with" (translation: who he thought was easiest to get away from)
Being one of three girls with a Mom who still won't pick up earthworms, I think I handled it pretty well. But seeing Austin and Will's Mommy carry that beast, I mean...frog around showed me I still have a lot to learn on the ins and outs of boys. By the way, E totally held her own! So proud of her! After an hour or so the foggie* had to take a time out and be placed back in his home for a much needed nap! So we all continued our day in the gorgeous weather, building memories with our friends, on a day that started dark and gloomy, but ended with rose colored cheeks and foggie potty* on our hands.
(there were no foggies harmed in the creation of this blog post)

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I most certainly DID NOT spend the first hour of my morning on Friday under our house in the crawl space waiting for a storm to pass feeding the kids granola bars "in case the electricity goes off". And most definitely did not then make them a "real" breakfast of bacon and eggs, stuffing both there tummies so full, they were sleepy before lunch time. NOT ME!

This week, I most certainly did not let my daughter wear her pajama shirt to "school" just because I did not want to fight the fight that would inevitably ensue if I made her change into her regular clothes. So I am not thankful for the fact that OshKosh makes really cute pj's that are practically impossible to know are pj's unless you own them.

I did not eat 3 zingers in the course of one hour because I had run 5 miles that morning and told myself that if I was craving it, my body MUST need it to recover the run. Nope, not me!

I, also, did NOT cry when watching The Biggest Loser contestants run a marathon and decide that I could probably do that myself if I really wanted to (except I do not run that far unless I am being chased) Nope, no sir.

While sweeping the kitchen floor this week, I did not sweep all the rubbish onto the carpet with intention to get out the vacuum to get it up, precede to get distracted by the kids, and not get around to vacuuming the pile until the next day. NEVER!

And finally, I was not so thrilled to see my blog's Mcktraffic feed last Monday that I had to participate today to see if I could do the same thing in the hopes to get a few followers.....I would NEVER!

Happy Mother's Day

I wanted to take a moment today to thank the three ladies I refer to as "Mom" in some capacity in my life.

To my mother in law...... Thank you for giving me the most amazing gift in my life, your son. I hold him high today and everyday in a light that is reserved for the man who makes my life worth living, makes my life more exciting to experience, and keeps my future a promise of happiness. And thank you for the Mimi that you are to B and E. They love you so much, look forward to their time with you, and miss you when you are away. I appreciate the joy you add to their lives.

To my bonus mom, DeeDee. Thank you for taking such great care of my father. He is very fortunate to have you in his life. And thanks so much for the wonderful addition you have been to my life and my children's lives.

And, most importantly, on this day I want to thank the mother who gave me life. Through these last three years of my own journey in motherhood, I have gained a perspective on what it is that you have done and are doing for my sisters and I. From birthing three children, to the day-to-days in toddlerhood, the teenage years with girls (gulp), the empty nest, mother in law, and now the present role of Nonni. You are a great mother and an amazing Nonni. I love to hear the laughter from your lips and see the peace the adoration you have for B and E brings you. Thank you for all that you do to help keep this family afloat and for genuinely loving the time you have with my babies.
We LOVE you!

Soon A Memory

Wet hair and tired eyes
pointing to pictures, thumb-sucking,
pj's sticking to little bodies
soft smell of baby lotion and powder in the air
pre-prayer snuggles
"Once-upon-a-time"
Night, Night, Sleep Tight, See you in the Morning Light......

Did YOU just tell me NO?

This face is all too often the one I am seeing these days
this face that says,
"I do not accept the NO you just said to me"
or
"I did NOT do that, it was my brother, B"
or
"Yes, stranger, I am this shy and this cute and NEVER give my parents a hard time"
or
"MiMi, it is fine if I have another milkshake, MomBE does not care!"
or
"Nonni, I want to stay here at your house, MomBE is pretty boring these days"
or
"Dad-O, I can do NO wrong and you know it!"
or
"B, you know I am a step ahead of you and WILL get you in trouble if it kills me!"

E, life with you has yet to be and will never be dull!
Love you
